ALERTS

Send Alerts using Skype

If you are a registered user and are also using Skype (www.skype.com), it is possible to send the alerts directly to your Skype account and this way get notified on an upper or lower alert breakout. The only requirement is that you have a version of Skype installed and activated with a personal account. Skype itself does not have to be active but it works faster if Skype is already active.

Send Skype Chat alerts

You can use this option if you want a (Skype) friend to receive a stock alert, or send the alert to your (alternate) Skype account if you are away from home.

Sending alerts to a (second) skype account is free and very easy to use. Even if the receiver is not online he will receive the message the next time he logs on to Skype. If you are planning to send the chat messages to yourself (on another location like at work) you will have to create a second Skype account : the home account is used to send the message and the second account will be used to receive the message at the remote location. (Logging on to your main account on a different location will log off your home account and so Alerttape will not be able to send out it's alerts.). More info here.

Send Skype SMS alerts

It is also possible to send alerts to your cellular phone (GSM) using the SMS feature of Skype.

Sending SMS messages is not FREE (but it is still very cheap) so you will have to buy credits on your Skype account (see the prices on their website). More info on setting up your Skype account here.

Remarks

Please remark that all these alerts are sent using Skype. So it is Skype that sends out the Chat messages and the SMS messages. It is still possible that at the moment of an alert the Skype servers are temporarely unavailable.
